tl;dr Starting in January I'll work for the Mozilla Services Team and will be based in Hamburg, Germany.
It's been almost four years since I left my hometown and old career and moved to Norway, doing Plone development full time at Jarn. For a while now I've been looking for a change of scenery. Unfortunately Jarn's plans to establish a presence in Berlin didn't work out, so I was back in small town Norway for the past eight months.
At the same time I've been using Plone for almost ten years and started engaging with the community nine years back. It's been an exciting and wonderful time, but as of late my enthusiasm has faded away. On the other hand I've witnessed an immense community energy at this years living status sprint and the Plone Conference 2011. I'm certain the striving and ever renewing community will move Plone to the next level - it's just going to be without much of my time.
Now I'm looking forward to an excellent new team. And a new opportunity to contribute to Open Source software and making the web a better place. Catch me in Hamburg, San Francisco and maybe in a Mozilla Berlin office soon. Or in #distutils, #pylons or related Python projects :)
So long and thanks for all the Plone,
Hanno
P.S. Alex Limi cannot be blamed for my departure at all - it was entirely Tarek's fault ;)
Thanks a lot for your huge efforts and energy that you spent over almost a decade into Zope and Plone. Plone would not be in the good shape as it is right now without you. The community owes you more than just a simple thank you. Personally I enjoyed working with you during my time as Zope release manager and it can understand that energy and focus changes after a decade of dedicated work within an open-source project.
ReplyDeleteEndings are just beginnings...so it's time to move on and focus on new goals and projects.
Andreas
Wow! Well I can echo Andreas' comment. Plone an Zope really do owe a lot to you. Few people I know are able to dig quite so deep into the guts of Zope and Plone to squeeze yet more performance out of them.
ReplyDeletePlone, Zope and Jarn are losing an amazingly talented developer. But all I can say is that Mozilla code is about to get FAST!
Hope all goes well, and hope you still stick your head in to the Plone community now and then.
-Matt
We're glad to have you onboard, welcome !
ReplyDeleteCongrats Hanno! Thanks for your truly inspiring work over the years.
ReplyDeleteHanno, thanks for all the great work and great code. I've learned a lot. We'll all be looking forward to your next chapter.
ReplyDeleteReally sad to hear that you are focusing on other technologies from now on, I hope that you will still contribute to Zope and Plone in the future, and you get do it for pleasure and out of enthusiasm...
ReplyDelete( Hopefully someday you will get to work on cool new things and then you will try to bring some of them to the Zope and Plone world :) )
Again thank you for everything you have done so far, looking forward as well to your next chapter and as I've said maybe someday Zope and Plone will be in another chapter of your life.
P.S. I really hope Martin Aspeli won't feel the same way in the near future, it would be a major loss to see so many good people leave the Zope and Plone ecosistem.
Thanks a lot for your great work ! How zope/plone community can do without you ? Tarek tu n'as pas honte , de nous piquer les meilleurs !
ReplyDeleteBest of luck for your new endeavor and once more many many thanks for all your contributions so far. And maybe Mozilla isn't that far away from the Python/Zope/Plone camp - or at least from whatever this will turn into over time (Pyramid???). From own experience I can tell that you sometimes get back to communities that you think you have left long ago only to realize that you've never been away really.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Raphael
Hanno, thank you so much for your tremendous work and contributions to Plone! We will not only loose a great developer but also a very nice person. I really hope to see around to give me the chance to buy you the drinks I personally owe you for your help! All the best at Mozilla! They can be very very lucky to have you!
ReplyDeleteThank you and good luck, Hanno! :-)
ReplyDeleteZope/plone community is losing a critical actor. Personally, I will miss your discreet presence at sprints and conferences where I enjoyed chatting or working with you.
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope I will have the chance to meet you again somewhere on our planet.
I am sure your great skills will support Mozilla's moves towards new horizons. Good luck.
bad news for plone and zope, but good news for mozilla. you've done incredibly much for this community! i hope to see you around at some python/plone related happenings in the future!
ReplyDeletethank you and best wishes,
